Welcome to another summer edition, this time with my re-imagining of when the party’s over, written by Finneas O’Connel in 2018, and sung by his sister, Billie Eilish.
You know how it is.
It’s too easy to fall in to the habit of listening to what you already like without giving much thought to what else is out there.
Well, thank goodness for my teenage singing students, I say!
There’s a whole army of Billie Eilish fans out there in the world but I think I have at least a squadron of them in my studio each week. And it’s because of them that I get to know musicians I might otherwise not have listened to so closely.
Don't you know I'm no good for you?
I've learned to lose you, can't afford to
Tore my shirt to stop you bleedin'
But nothin' ever stops you leavin'
Excerpt from when the party’s over, by Finneas O’Connell
So here’s my take on this song. Of course, it’s been covered many times already because it is such a beautiful song, but what’s one more, right?
And, as I say to my students, one of the best ways to sharpen your creative skills is to try to make something that already exists your own.
So here goes.
